Here is a recent article by Canadian journalist Gwynne Dyer discussing Pope Benedict’s England visit last month, and specifically, the crafty use he made of the visit to attack “atheist extremism”, thereby deflecting attention from the thousands of Catholic priests and bishops abusing the children in their care, and perpetuating the myth that atheism = Nazism, whereas the truth is that secularism in modern society = diversity & tolerance. We thought it might be nice to have an SEA event that is something different than hanging out in a bar. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but variety is the spice of life. So, we thought we all could go for some amazing Chinese food at one of Mike’s favorite Chinese restaurants. The good thing about Mirama is that they have quite a large dining hall so if hundreds of people want to come they will have the room for all of us.

Our President has been invited to present an atheist perspective on this topic. Also presenting are a Christian, a Jew, and a Muslim (oh my). Each speaker will have approximately 20 minutes to state his case, and then there will be a question period. As he will basically be outgunned by a ratio of three Abrahamics to one, any support would be greatly appreciated, especially in the form of well thought out questions.
