festival of faiths

The Society of Edmonton Atheists have been asked to participate in the Festival of Faiths event happening tomorrow at City Hall from 10:30am until 4pm.  Please drop by and enjoy the exhibits at this free event.   There will be numerous groups with information booths for your perusal, as well as a few panel discussions including one at 11:15am on the persecution and discrimination of minority religions (we are included in this panel discussion).

The faiths that will be represented are:
Falun Dafa (Falun Gong)
New Thought
Unitarian Universalism
United Church

We would like to thank the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights for inviting us to participate.

The library had to cancel our room booking for October Round Table due to an event requiring all their space, so we will instead be headed to the University.

The new location is the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy (ECHA) room 1-190 (first floor on north end by Starbucks) at the University of Alberta.  The ECHA is located directly behind the Health Sciences/Jubilee LRT station.  The time remains the same (7pm start) and we will also be looking at heading to Sherlock Holmes on Campus afterwards.

Prof Glen Fairen will be joining us to discuss what makes something ”religion” vs ”magic or the occult”.
As of August he has his Phd in religious studies through the UofA. He has a BA and MA from the Univerisity of Regina. His normal area of expertise is early Christian heretics and how these folks are studies by modern scholars ( check out his published book As Below So Above) and he is the resident witchcraft expert at the UofA.

He considers himself an evangelical atheist
