Mission
The Edmonton Atheists fosters a community among atheists, agnostics, skeptics and freethinkers through discussion, constructive activism, education and philanthropy.
History
The Edmonton Atheists (EA) was originally a Meetup group near the University of Alberta, to provide a place for like-minded people to discuss religion and skepticism. Throughout the years, the EA has maintained its focus on community building, promotion of public awareness of atheism, and volunteer activities.
Volunteer Opportunities
If you’re interested in helping out in any way, or starting an event, please contact us. We’re always looking for people to help with the website. If you’re interested in writing for us, but don’t know where to start, find some ideas on the volunteers page.
Code of Conduct
Please visit our Code of Conduct for basic expectations of behaviour at any EA sponsored activity. Our Facebook page Code of Conduct can be found in the group’s “About” section.
I consider myself all the above atheist ,agnostic, and a freethinker (Existentialism). If there is anything I can do let me know. Also, If there is a community centre or place of philosophy, please let me know? Would you specifically know of any other communites or banners like “Existentialism” or “Honest Pagan” any where around the city?
I’d appreciate the opportunity to help out and maybe some direction. Thanks.
We meet as a group the first Tuesday of every month, at the Stanley A. Milner Library downtown. Watch here or join us on facebook to be notified of our future events.
Are these meetings at the library open to anyone? Do I have to become a member officially? Are there fees to pay? How large is the group? I’m an atheist and I don’t know anyone else here in Edmonton who I can share my views with.
Hi Karen,
Anyone can attend any of our meetings without being a member. This year, membership is $10 for the year. We have about 50 paid members, over 200 people on our active Facebook page, and usually 20 or so people at the library meetings.
The newsletters mention our planned events for the month. They’ll all get announced on the blog as well, and any other events that pop up will be posted on the blog.
Hope to see you out!
Hi all
As an Atheist I to find myself outside and at times feel myself going slowing insane .
Struggling with person relations to self medication .. Would love to connect with people who have similar issues and thous have succeed without having to find a Higher power
Desperate and thank for your help.
I don’t no why it has taken me so long to look in this dicection.
I saw your booth today at the Gay Pride. I almost joined but the thing that turned me off was your shirt that said “I was kicked out of a bookstore for putting the Bibles in the fiction section”. I thought you’re all about ‘constructive activism’? I thought we should respect each other no matter their beliefs are???
This last year we had a dress code for attendees so personal views would not be seen as the approach the entire group takes. Perhaps you are willing to drop by a meeting to see what we’re about? The events tab will let you know what is up and coming. 🙂
