It’s the Society of Edmonton Atheists monthly roundtable, first Tuesday of every month starting at 7 p.m!

This month we will be having a much more interactive roundtable discussion. Everyone is encouraged to bring a story that they have heard, or read about, or have had happen to them that involves a religious fundamentalist saying or doing something completely ludicrous. We will all take turns telling our stories and then at the end of the night we will vote on which one we think is best and the person that told that story will win a prize.

**PLEASE NOTE** – This month we are meeting in the basement of the library and not in our usual room. The name of the meeting room is “The Centennial Room”

Drinks at Elephant and Castle afterwards at 9:00 pm-ish

Upcoming round-tables (mark your calendars!):

6 March 2012: “History of Religious Holidays”

This month marks the return of our Museum Madness monthly event. This month will be travelling to the Reynold’s Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin.

As this museum is out of town we will need to coordinate transportation. If you are able to drive a small group of people down in your car then please let us know by sending Michael Hartman a message or by writing on the Facebook well for this event. Depending on how many people wish to attend we will probably only need 1 or 2 volunteers. We ask that the passengers cover the costs of gas for the volunteer driver in the vehicle as a sign of appreciation.

On Saturday morning at 9:00 AM we can all meet at South Edmonton Common and head out from there. If anyone is unable to get to South Edmonton Common on their own then contact us and it can be arranged to pick you up from wherever is convenient.

An adult admission to the museum is $10, youth (under 17) is $5 and children under 6 are free. Hope to see you all there!

The "Heathen Road Gang"

Eight of the SEA take a break from picking up litter to pose with our sign!

Today, the SEA held its third annual highway cleanup, as part of the “Caring for Alberta’s Highways (Adopt-A-HighwaCaring for Alberta's Highways: Society of Edmonton Atheistsy) Program”. Our stretch of Highway is East of the Queen Elizabeth 2, north of the 525 turnoff, which is one road north of the Airport Road.

From 11:00 am to 3:30 pm eight brave and dedicated SEA members picked up Tim Horton’s coffee cups, gloves, socks, carpet, ribbons, cans, cigarette wrappers and various and sundry other treasures. Fortunately the weather was fairly well suited to the job, not too hot (although the clouds did move to expose some of us to bursts of heat) and not too windy.

The 3 kilometre stretch seemed much longer when you are stopping every couple of steps to bend over (ooh my back), but the company and the good cause made it worthwhile.

Small confession: we spent a little time early on wondering why there was so little trash, until we realized we were on the wrong tract (Halliburton’s adopted piece of earth, not ours!).

A big thanks to our volunteers!

More photos of our escapades can be found here.
