Comparative religion courses are always a good thing in schools. I find that many believers have a misconception that atheists don’t want religion taught in schools. The problem is, believers only want one religion (theirs) taught and to be treated as fact. I want a wide variety to be taught, including their crazy parts (Xenu the Intergalactic Space Lord, Jesus of Kolob, transsubstantiation, genital mutilation of boys and girls, marginalization of women and outgroups, etc).

When people begin to see clearly how nuts other religions are, it does tend to lead them to ask uncomfortable questions about their own. And that is EXACTLY why believers tend not to like comparative religion classes, at least in my opinion.

Liking a clean house is a different order of magnitude than believeing that if you move the couch over there it will bring misfortune. No superstition is required to prefer things neat and tidy.

Although I do not believe in most of the stuff mentioned, I do like to have a clean house. So I guess that makes me sort of Feng Shui-ish.

Thanks Luke, sorry for not following up. Coincidentally my kids are 5 and 7 too. They attend a public school (not a christian school like the one you are forced to) and yet are already exposed to the god bug.

I completely agree with your sentiments, I hope to instill in my children the wonderment of the world around them, an understanding of our place in the “real” universe. if they choose to be drawn to religion, then so be it, but they will always have the education to think for themselves.

Hi all
As an Atheist I to find myself outside and at times feel myself going slowing insane .
Struggling with person relations to self medication .. Would love to connect with people who have similar issues and thous have succeed without having to find a Higher power
Desperate and thank for your help.

I don’t no why it has taken me so long to look in this dicection.
